The idea of our preschool is helping each child reach challenging and achievable goals. Meeting children where they are and using Developmentally Appropriate Practice. To get to know each child we observe them individually and in groups. After observation teachers can make specific plan adjustments for developmental areas. We have individual programs for each child focusing on his/her specific needs.

3-Year Old Preschool Class

Children at the age of three are curious. They want to experiment with cause and effect. They take things apart with glee. Our teachers provide them with materials such as blocks, puzzles, water and etc. They can recognize the numbers in small groups. Vocabulary grows rapidly at this age, between 2,000 and 4,000 words. As part of our curriculum we use a lot of different forms of conversation such as poems, nursery rhymes, recordings, games, and stories. At this age we are using only Russian language. Children can listen to stories and pretend to read to themselves. In class teacher will read to small groups every day, and talk with the children about the things that are read. Children at this age prefer to play along or with one or two classmates. We provide them with many opportunities to do individual activities as well as work in groups. We support children building relationships with others.

4-Year Old Preschool Class

Children are naturally interested in shapes, colors, and textures. Most children can name six to eight colors and shapes like squares, triangles, and circles. Four year old children learn to count to 20 and beyond. Teachers will use the names of shapes and colors in natural way. At the age of four our preschool children will start learning English. They will start with counting and comparing in both languages spoken by the group. Children have 4,000 to 6,000 words in their vocabulary. They can create sentence made up of 5 - 6 words. In group activities teachers will invite children to tell their own story, and respond to children’s questions about letters and words. We will write down the stories children tell to teacher. Teachers will encourage children to write their own names, letters, and words in both Russian and English languages. Children like singing, want to dramatize and make up their own songs. We offer a range of musical and rhythmic opportunities every day where they learn songs with rhymes and phonological features. At this age children develop strong friendships. Children can be leaders and followers naturally throughout the day during dramatic play, music time, and outdoors. Our teachers will assist children by coaching them, reading picture books about friendship, and will talk to them about being good friends.

5-Year Old Preschool Class

Five-year-olds are creative and enthusiastic problem solvers. They participate in a variety of new experiences; five-year-olds ask more logical questions and weigh their choices. They are also more social as they learn new things and prefer activities that involve other children. The language skills of five-year-olds are well developed. Vocabulary continues to increase; they can use between 5,000 and 8,000 words. They pronounce words clearly, speak in complex and compound sentences, use correct grammar for the most part and have good-sized vocabulary that continues to grow rapidly. Children this age enjoy initiating conversations, they can wait their turn to speak during group conversations and are typically able to include appropriate details when sharing personal experiences. The mathematical thinking of a child at this age becomes more abstract and expands to include a greater understanding of the characteristics of shapes and numbers. They can count out of up to "20" in a collection of items, conduct simple addition and subtraction and identify which number in a set is larger than the other. Five-year-olds understand and use words related to position, such as "under" or "behind." They sequence events chronologically and are learning to tell time. They can also sort objects based on more than one characteristic. Five-year-olds really want to know more about how the world works. Children this age can manage feelings and social situations with greater independence. They have improved skills for friendships with adults and other children. Being accepted by "the group" is becoming more and more important. In the creative arts, five-year-olds have a varied repertoire of music and are able to compose and arrange music within specified guidelines. They create realistic art with recognizable subjects and more detailed settings. They also recognize that art can tell a story. The dramatic play of five-year-olds is pre-planned, elaborate and sustained. They are able to perform simple plays, do pantomime and perform puppet shows.
